Last week Susie and I jumped at the opportunity to view 18 Killyleagh Road, Saintfield – we’d seen the photos, prepared the brochure and taken viewers feedback, but couldn’t wait to see if this dream property lived up to how amazing it looked on paper.
It is safe to say that it completely exceeded both our expectations from the second we stepped out of the car. Set up a stoned laneway about 500m from the road on an elevated site, it would be easy to think that the house could be exposed, yet this couldn’t be further from reality – the site has a very tranquil feel & the views are absolutely stunning from every angle.
You walk in the front door to a bright & spacious formal lounge / dining room which could serve many uses, but would be ideal for entertaining. Off this is the more casual family room that has uninterrupted views of Aughnadarrgh Lough and it’s not hard to imagine cosy winter evenings in front of the stove in this lovely room. Neither Susie or I expected to be so wowed by the kitchen which is open plan to the glass breakfast room – this for us was the hub of the home. The Italian kitchen has been well thought out and planned with loads of storage and worktop space – it’s practical as well as incredibly stylish & ideal for family life. The breakfast room is currently set up for every day dining, but could easily be used as a snug. It opens onto the patio that is a suntrap – ideal for bar-be-ques, & large gardens with exceptional views to the Lough. Downstairs is further complimented by a cloakroom and generous laundry room.
Upstairs is equally as impressive, designed to maximise the spectacular views from every room. All 5 bedrooms are bright and spacious – with the master bedroom leaving both Susie and I very jealous of the walk-in wardrobe and large en suite.
The exceptional finish and attention to detail is apparent throughout the house – small details such as separate heating zones and incredibly high levels of insulation throughout contribute to the impressive energy rating. Both multi fuel stoves are linked to the heating system to ensure maximum efficiency and there are double glazed solid oak frames throughout. But what you can’t gain from the impressive specification, brochure and photos is the warmth and homeliness that this house exudes, nor just how beautiful the views are from everywhere you turn, both in and outside. Just 15 minutes from the edge of Belfast, yet it feels like a million miles from the hustle & bustle of everyday life.
What we both gained most from our visit, is that this property needs to be seen to truly appreciate what it has to offer. We were literally blown away by this dream home and would be confident that anyone who goes to view it will feel the same.
